Tattoo Aftercare

Once you get a tattoo on your skin, special care should be given to it during the healing process. This is because maximum damage to the final look occurs during this period. By following a few guidelines, the quality of the tattoos can be retained for a long time after the healing process.

The tattoo should be covered for at least an hour. After removing the bandage, the ointment and oozing body fluid must be wiped off with a tissue. The tattoo should be well washed with hot, soapy water after the cover is removed only if necessary. After the tattoo is washed, it should not be covered again. A thin layer of ointment can be applied on the tattooed area. Before going to bed, the tattooed area should be wiped gently with alcohol to control the microorganisms on the surface of the skin during the hours of sleep. The tattoo should be kept dry during showers.

jelly or any jelly based products tend to drain the color from a tattoo. The ointment can be used on the tattoo for two days after which a moisturizing lotion or skin cream can be used three to four times a day for four or five days. The tattoo should be kept lightly moist and never be allowed to dry.

During the healing process, the tattooed area is like a new wound on your skin. Hence, proper care should be taken. A lot of money is spent on a nice tattoo. So the amount spent on aftercare products is almost negligible.

Scabs should not be picked at. And until all the scabs are gone, swimming must be avoided. Sun beds, sauna, Jacuzzi, tubs, tanning salons, contact sports, shaving and sun bathing should be avoided for at least three weeks. The tattoo should be kept clean and should hence be washed with hot soapy water everyday.
